Must See Holiday Light Displays In And Around Boston

The holiday season is upon us and what better way to get in the spirit than to visit some of the most spectacular holiday light displays. 

From kid-friendly zoo’s to botanical gardens, these spots are some of our favorite places to enjoy Christmas lights in Boston. So set aside some time, a thermos of hot cocoa and enjoy this magical season with the whole family.

ZooLights | Stone Zoo

Open Dates: November 23 – December 31, 5-9 p.m. (Closed Dec.25)

Take a stroll through the beautiful tree-lined paths lit by thousands of twinkling lights. Watch the kids faces light up as they get to meet and take photo’s with one of Stone Zoo’s reindeer.  You’ll find Smoky and Bubba the black bears, Canada lynx, arctic foxes and more reindeer nestled in their exhibits with holiday decorations aglow.  New this year visit the Caribbean Coast exhibit decorated with all the holiday wonder.

Special Events:  Holiday Hot Chocolate with the reindeer.  Photos with Jolly St. Nick in Santa’s Castle.  Enjoy rides on the Safari Jeep, Turbo Tub, Jungle Fun and a moonlit spin on the carousel.

Boston Common 

Open Dates: November 29, 2018 – January 1,2019

This annual holiday spectacular features the official Christmas tree from Nova Scotia, with many more luminous trees throughout the common.  Kick off the festivities Thursday, November 29th on Frog Pond for a free figure skating spectacular followed by the lighting of the trees shortly before 8pm.

Blink | Faneuil Hall 

Open Dates:  November 28, 2018 – January 1, 2019

Faneuil Hall Marketplace transforms into a magical display of over 350,000 LED lights choreographed to the music of the Holiday Pops. A massive Christmas tree with all its decorations, twinkling lights and music makes this display one of the most beloved, not to mention you can get your shopping done while enjoying all this wonder.  Performances run from 4:30 – 10 pm daily.

Winter Reimagined at Tower Hill Botanical Garden | Boylston

Open Dates:  November 23, 2018 – December 30, 2018

Night Lights at Tower Hill Botanical Garden is a wonder of thousands of lights, natural landscapes and breathtaking experiences.  You’ll be in awe of the beauty before you.  Enjoy refreshments and plenty of photo opportunities as you stroll through the gardens. With two unique experiences (Day Lights – daytime) and (Night Lights – nighttime).

Tower Hill will be open for Day Lights Wednesdays to Sundays, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Night Lights Tuesdays to Thursdays, 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., and Fridays to Sundays, 4 p.m. to 10 p.m

La Salette Shrine | Attleboro

Open Dates:  November 22, 2018 – January 6, 2019

With over 300,000 holiday lights spread over 10 acres the National Shrine of Our Lady La Salette is the reason for the season.  Reflecting and celebrating the birth of Jesus, this holy and sacred tradition welcomes all.  Mass is held Monday – Friday, 12:10 and 4 pm and Saturday – Sunday, 12:10, 4 pm and 5:30 pm.  Illuminations can be seen daily from 5-9pm.

In addition to the holiday light display you can also enjoy the International Creche museum with hundreds of creches from around the world.  The outdoor Creche of Bethlehem featuring a candle lit with a flame from Bethlehem, Israel. Concerts with Father Pat along with various guest artists.

Edaville Festival of Lights | Carver

Open Dates: November 18, 2018 – January 1, 2019

Enjoy one of New England’s most beloved theme parks as they celebrate Christmas with over 17 million (yes that’s right) dazzling lights illuminating the park.  Admission includes kid’s favorite – Thomas Land, Edaville Proper and the Christmas Festival of Lights.  With over 90 rides and attractions this fun-filled theme park provides hours of entertainment for the family.

The Enchanted Village | Jordans Furniture | Avon

Open Dates: November 17, 2018 – January 1, 2019

Stroll through the Enchanted Village, take a picture with Santa and treat yourself to a delicious blueberry muffin.  Skate around the indoor enchanted ice rink and enjoy a 3D Polar Express experience. Open Monday – Thursday 11-8pm, Friday 11-9pm, Saturday 10-9pm, Sunday 11-5pm.
